1000cc 3C Tipo endurance 'spaceframe'

As the values of thoroughbred and classic motorcycles continue to rise the chances of owning a genuine Laverda 'works ' endurance racer has now become an impossible dream for most enthusiasts.

Fortunately, through the efforts of Piero Laverda and Laverda Corse the possibility of owning a machine which captures the spirit of the original factory bikes, has now become a reality. The legendary Laverda 1000 3C tipo Endurance 1975 , commonly referred to as the 'Spaceframe' is now available in strictly limited numbers through Laverda Corse.

The Laverda endurance racer can be a practical proposition for the average enthusiast because they are inherently tough and reliable…they had to be in order to complete the gruelling long distance events in which Laverdas were so successful.

The kit is very comprehensive, and contains all the various brackets and fixings which were fitted to the original works machine. This includes items such as the cockpit bracketry for the oil cooler, the Smiths tacho mounting bracket, footpegs, fairing brackets etc..

When building a kit a donor bike will help reduce the costs, however , if the intention is to build an exact replica of the works bike than then a donor bike is unlikely to yield the correct parts that would be required. If the intention is simply to build a period looking endurance bike for use on the road then any 3C, Jota or Mirage will provide the majority of parts that will be required. The original bikes had wire wheels , although at the end of their racing life one of them was fitted with cast wheels [this particular machine is in the Laverda family collection]. Therefore it is perfectly feasible to use either a cast wheeled donor bike or a wire wheel 3C. Cast wheel 3CL s are fairly plentiful and there are many neglected examples around that can be bought at attractive prices.

Alternatively it would also be possible to use a later RGS 120 degree engine, although many of the cycle components on the RGS are quite different from the original machine.

When completed , the spaceframe kit will transform a road going triple into a very exotic 1970s style endurance racer. It makes a very dramatic looking road bike with superb handling to match , or it can it can be used in top level classic endurance racing events such as the Spa or Magny Cours 4 hour endurance races.
