500 Endurance Tipo ‘Barcelona 24 hr’
There were only four works 500cc endurance machines built, two for the ’78 season and two for the ’79. The kit offered by Laverda Corse is an exact replica of the works ’79 model which came 1st in the 500cc class of the Barcelona 24hour race at Montjuic Park ridden by Augusto Brettoni and PK Davies. The Laverda Corse ‘Barcelona ‘ kit provides an opportunity to create a machine which, budget permitting, can be an exact replica of the original works bike. To build the bike you will need a suitable 500cc donor bike. Prospective customers should be aware that some minor frame modifications are required in order to mount the rearsets and the front fairing bracket. Once this work has been carried out the remainder of the conversion is relatively straightforward. The kit comes complete with all the relevant brackets necessary to modify the frame.

There are no engine parts included in the kit [except for the exhaust system] and the level of engine tune is the customer’s choice. The motor can be left standard or tuned with some of the special tuning parts we offer under the Laverda Corse As optional extras we can supply valves pistons and gears to F500 specification plus a choice of standard type Sito 2 into 2 or one of the specially developed Laverda Corse 2 into 2 or 2 into 1 exhaust systems that are fitted to the team’s race bikes.
UK importer Roger Slater pictured in Mexico with one of the original ’79 team bikes from the Barcelona 24 hour race. The bike, ridden by PK Davies in the event , was given to Roger by Massimo Laverda as a gift at the end of its successful season. Some years later Roger re-commissioned the bike and entered it in the Carrera Panamerica retrospective with PK Davies as the pilot, which is how the bike came to be in Mexico. In the event PK came in came 2nd overall and 1st in class.
