"Don't change a formula that works", must have thought
Phelippe Zendroi, boss of the organization.
Also this year
the event carried out the 22-23 July, at its 3rd edition,
on Le Vigeant circuit close to Poitiers had a great success.
Many bikes were present (more than 350), of all ages and
displacements: they ranged from the '20s to current models,
from 50cc to 1000cc on up, with just a limit: they had to be
exclusively Italian.
Because that's the event spirit: the
Italian mechanic and design school. In fact the Queens of
this year were the Laverda 1000 V6 and the 500 Guzzi V8 of
the '50s (which replica has been reconstructed and brought
on track from the Italian Federico Marcellino).
So could not
lack Laverda Corse team, host of the organization for the
second time, come on great forces to this France circuit,
as far as bikes (500 Formula, 1000 RGS TT1, 750 Formula,
1000 V6 and 1000 Endurance ' 72) that people: Piero Laverda
with son Giovanni and daughter Bruna, Simone (Piero's nephew),
Fernando Cappellotto and Antonio Segalla (ex factory meccanic).
For the occasion arrived with them also the Austrian Franz Laimboeck
(very expert engineer and Super Bike national champion in 1975 on a
Laverda 1000) with his wife Brighitte.
The Italian collector Romano Mancini and his son Michele came with a
splendid 750 SFC replica (very admired) and a rare Bimota KB1.
Numerous Laverdas were in the paddok and on track, coming from many
parts of Europe: France, Italy, England and Holland.
The Team had a great acceptance (particular thanks go to the Scuderia
Guzzi for the wonderful barbeques) and gave a print of orange to the
event together with Club Amicale 750, Laverda Club France and the team
Lavergnąc (the only Laverdas that run with Cognąc....). On track there
were also two Dutch friends: Martin Damsma and Peter van het Spijker,
both engaged in Dutch championship for series bikes, with a Laverda
650 Sport and a Formula 750 S (the second one victim of a little slide
on Sunday).
In an extremely cordial clime, where was possible to breath
and taste the passion for Italian motorcycles, the event ran without any
difficulties, throughout the track sessions of the 6 categories of bikes.
Weather didn't play jokes like last year, as it remained serene and warm
for all the weekend.
The presentation about the V6 made by Piero Laverda on Saturday evening
in a full room of enthusiasts, had been followed with a lot of interest.
It has covered all the history of the bike that in 1977 astonished the
world: from its initial concept to prototype realization, to the race at
Bol D' Or in September 1978, all supported by more than 60 slides with a
direct comments from those who lived inside this adventure.
The only
hurting note of the weekend had been on Saturday afternoon when Fernando
fell with V6: nothing serious, but a minor slide in low speed on a badly
advised oil spot, from which Fernando came out not injured and the bike
with some scratches on the fairing. On Sunday the bike was back on the
track without the fairing and because of this, the spectators were able
to admire the beauty and massiveness of the Laverda engine.
So also this year everyone was satisfied for these two days in track, and
we are sure that this event has a long future in front of itself!
